A french term for the binding ingredient in any sauce, such as flour, butter, egg yolk, etc.
This is a very general word, which grossly means "linking". Be careful when you use it. Depending on the context, it can mean anything from a connection ("une liaison telephonique") to an extra-marital affair. You might want to avoid dangerous confusions.
Li`ai`son" (?), n. [F., fr. L. ligatio, fr. ligare to bind. See Ligature, and cf. Ligation.]
A union, or bond of union; an intimacy; especially, an illicit intimacy between a man and a woman.
