Similar in gameplay to Gradius, Laser Gates had many features not commonly associated with Atari Games. It is a subterranean side scrolling shooter. Although most of the gameplay involved dodging obstacles, not shooting enemies. Fully half of the screen was taken up by gauges, (which kept track of your score, fuel, shields, etc). This game was also released under the name of Laser Volley by Zellers, who tried to pretend that it was a helicopter game.
