Short for Light Non Aqueous Phase Liquid. An LNAPL is a hydrophobic substance that is lighter than water and hence floats on the groundwater table. As compared to DNAPL plumes, LNAPL plumes are comparatively easy to remediate. LNAPL plumes are common wherever gas stations are located, due to leakage and spillage.
