An old market town in Denmark. It is first mentioned in 1241 and was chartered in 1425 as a small ferry port and town. After the coming of the railway in 1856 it grew to be an important industrial and commercial town. Situated on Zealand it is now next to a very long and impressive bridge which connects it to Fyn.
