A tactical term in chess. A knight outpost is a spot on the chess board where it is not possible for the knight to be attacked by advancing pawns. It is also not possible to be attacked by other peices in a way that is beneficial for your opponent. The best kind of outpost is one where your knight is right infront of your opponents pawn.
