A worker in the studio who often broke away to produce independent projects of his own, Vidor's films examine the relationship of the individual to the society around him. He was born in 1894, and in 1935 he filmed The Wedding Night with Gary Cooper and Anna Sten. He also made The Big Parade, The Crowd, Duel in the Sun and The Fountainhead.
