Island located in southwestern Charleston County, South Carolina, near Seabrook Island, Johns Island, and Wadmalaw Island. Approximately 21 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. Most of the island is a private residential community, protected by a security checkpoint. A pass is required to go beyond the checkpoint. The rest of the island is taken up by the Kiawah Island Resort, home to five championship golf courses.
