Ken Livingstone (a.k.a. Red Ken, although he is far less extreme in his views that many of his critics) is a Labour politician who successfully became the first Mayor of London on the 5th of May 2000. Ken had to run independently and embarrassed his Labour superiors who were backing the comparitively obedient official candidate, Frank Dobson.

Ken has a strong interest in the future of London, and was once the leader of the (much maligned) Greater London Council. He is particularly interested in transport in the capital, and opposed privatisation of the tube. He has also been instrumental in the creation of a congestion-reducing tariff on entering Central London by car.

He is a big fan of newts.
