1936-1999

A newspaper reporter at the Washington Post who became one of President Nixon's key men in the White House, as deputy director of White House communications. Clawson would later be associated with the 1972 "Canuck Letter" sent to the Manchester Union-Leader in New Hampshire. This letter would bring down Maine's Democratic Senator Ed Muskie. Clawson left the White House three months after Nixon's resignation.
