On
Slashdot, the practice of posting angry responses to anything
feature columnist Jon Katz posts, often ignoring the substance of the article to focus on Katz himself. These angry posts tend to be summed up in the suggestion that Katz crawl back under whatever rock he originally came from and stop
pestering the
geeks of the world, who have enough trouble as it is.
However, for every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism. These posts invariably inspire a near-equal amount of "Hey, leave the guy alone, at least he's trying" posts from Katz defenders. It is too bad that they do not manage to cancel each other out, leaving only the substantive discussion behind, but then, that's what Slashdot's moderation system is there for.
