An art form which is a combination drama, dance and music. Originated in Kerala over 500 years ago. It he actors depict characters from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata and from the Puranas. Kathakali uses the trainining exercises of Kalari Pyattu, the martial art of Kerala. Interesting "feature" is that only men used to take part in these dances in the early years, even playing the female's role !
