sabre23t: Random Nodes

RockLobster is moving up quite smartly. As Segnbora-t did.

sabre23t: Nodes to node

A lot has elapsed since my last day log ~ a week ago. Bike fixed (4 pm) and broken again (3 am) within twelve hours; my brother-in-law's manly-equivalent-of-a-baby shower featuring amazingly grilled salmon, Barrett's Privateers, homemade wine, my theory of Brittany Spears as the Uber-SpiceGirl, a great Freudian slip (referring to the dictionary distinction of "male" and "man", letting escape the phrase that a male injected gametes into the female ego) and a well-received reading of Death of a Poet; PlaceboMan's going-away party featuring croquet, a noise complaint, eighteen tabbers in the same place at the same time, tea-candling on the beach, the giant paperclip in Vanier Park and up-all-night fruit salad and croissant breakfast at 6 am. Those are the highlights - the week has had some in the white moments and at least one black afternoon/evening.

At some point I made a note in my notebook: day log: mischarged. What did it mean ? Ask me last Tuesday.

I made a number of Everything observations, and some Everythinging observations as well. As I approached the Godhead event horizon, I, unwilling to slow down my activity, decided to hobble myself by withdrawing from all future New Nodes list appearances. I would only exist in the database in the past tense - furthering some activity I had been engaging in of beefing up old E1 writeups. I felt that it would be appropriate for a God(head) to be present everywhere but directly witnessed nowhere, and thus would step up the noding activity for posterity, writing purely free from the concerns of eyes of a present-day audience and attaining some degree of abstraction. After starting my covert actions I found that the nodes I was writing were getting down-voted soon after being posted. This could be no mere drive-by as they weren't visible on the new nodes listing. Asamoth suggested that perhaps I had accrued some Everything Enemies. I, for one was scandalized.

Furthering my scandalization was the discovery that my Godhead was not to be realized! Though it was listed on the XP / Experience table, upon attainment of its qualifications the anticipated level-up failed to occur. This was odd. Odder yet was the discovery that dbrown is listed as a level 11 Godhead - presumably he must be hardcoded as such. Maybe this will be fixed by the time I am joined by another of the requisite qualifications, that we might form a pantheon. For the record, Shanoyu gets the dubious honour of having awarded me my 13 thousandth XP point through a Ching!.

I was contemplating taking an Everything Vacation upon the attainment of Godhead - some people saw my disappearance from the New Nodes listing, cross-checked it with my present user profile pic and thought that I had made good on my promise and ascended. But as the expression goes, only the good die young - it seems I am fated to be Everything's equivalent to Wordsworth, and will no doubt remain making Everything Bowel Movement logs here deep into my senility while everyone's grandchildren will have moved on to Everything 15.

I now have 50 writeups above reputation 11. Some time not too long ago I was heard to make the same observation for writeups above reputation 10. If I had kept track of when, I could have made amusing little statistics for me to cluck at and which might allow me to make pseudo-statistical predictions as to when I will attain 50 writeups over reputation 12 (any day now, say the boys in the lab.) For lack of information to process, I am digesting random strings of numbers and assigning them significance. For god's sake, man, read a book or something!

In the meantime I had a giggle when I noticed that things I find sexy and things I am ashamed of were next to each other in my reputation-ranked user list. They are no longer so. Since my last day log entry (oddly also my highest-ranked one), I have written 15 writeups and have gained over 500 XP. There has not been a direct corellation, but I have noticed strangely that every time I log on something of mine is to be found in the Cool Nodes list on the front page.

This day log is a great disappointment to me, not only in the company of my most-recent predecessor but objectively (and let us not get into that debate again 8). There are enough important things without my needing to assign significance to further instances of butterfly-flappings. I think I should get some sleep. I think I should wash some dishes. But what do I -want- to do?

in our last episode... | p_i-logs | and then, all of a sudden...

15:31 EET

The noder's block I was whining about yesterday is gone. Since I have received many compliments about my synthesizer related writeups (thanks people!), it seemed like a nice idea to add more of them. With all the info out there missing from E2, I'll be working on it for a good while. Apart from the singular pieces of equipment, I should also node all the missing synth terms.
How come I thought there wasn't anything to write yesterday? :)

I've noded enough today to get brackets appearing in everything I type. It's time to take a few hour break from noding, leave the office and meet my friend at Carrols. I arrived at work early anyway.

weekend summary

there is absolutely nothing better than holding a shotgun and shouting "PULL!" and hitting the skeet on your first ever attempt to do so. SMASH! whoah! i hit it! i jumped for joy. i figured i'd be lucky to hit one clay pigeon during the day -- when i hit the first one i tried... well, i almost stopped for the day figuring it's best to stop while you're ahead. but i kept going. i'm not bad for a first-timer, and i plan on getting better with lots of practice. it's amazingly satisfying to hit a 4 inch moving target at 50 yards with a shotgun that bucks like a bronco against your shoulder and cheek... but really, when you've got a target to aim at, you really don't notice the recoil at all.

my right shoulder is sore and has a huge hickey-like bruise. but it doesn't matter. i got the clay pigeon on the first shot. I AM THE MAN.

yes, my vacation was wonderful.

morning

wake up, shower, kiss the man goodbye, go to work. coffee. coffee. coffee.

i'm going to go to practice today... i hope to get in four days of practice this week.

work is going to be tough, there's a lot of projects on my plate right now, but it's nothing i can't handle. i'm glad to have deadlines again. i work best on a schedule.

afternoon

coffee. coffee. coffee. i have forgotten to eat again. i'll do so after practice tonight. it's rainy and grey, but i don't mind. it was mostly sunny and beautiful during my vacation. i have finished all of my objectives for the day, i just need to deliver code to the boss man.
10:10 AM PST: Today I feel somewhat slippery inside my clothes. This is directly attributable to the No. 1 buzzcut I gave my chest last night. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm smooooooooooth...

So the management takeover of the company is temporarily stalled. We're awaiting the the results of a merger deal that's already far apace. I give it a 50% probability of success. If we aren't purchased in that manner, we'll go before the board with our plan and beg for money. It's all rather exciting - but I promised myself I wouldn't faint this week.

Last Day Log

Summer is here too early this year. Collecting the newspaper one morning last week I found the mailbox lying decapitated on the sidewalk next to a smattering of rainbow colored headlight glass and a tire tread. Walking around the neighborhood new tagging is sprouting up everywhere.

Good news! Husband wil be getting a raise soon. Number One son has been promoted at work and Number Two Son started Summer School yesterday. (He's already complaining about having to get up early and trudge off to class on the second day. Too late for a refund he's been committed to the classes for the summer)

Registered for a Beginning Quicken class at a local community college. Something interesting to do and get out of the heat for one day.

Checked into getting my teaching certificate renewed and was happy to discover it doesn't expire till next July instead of this July like I thought. Sending a letter, six transcripts and my resumé in to see just how much I have to do to renew it.

Howard says he got a call from a man in Ohio who had read his book. He wanted to know if anyone could read The Teddy Bear chapter without crying (I finished his sentence). The Christian Quarterly has bought the rights to publish chapter 7 for $15,000 and Howard will get half of that. He's working on a new book that will come out next year . In that book he says he'll address the question Is there life after grace?.

Good to see you back dem bones andp_i.

The Harvest of the Heart

So neither he who plants, nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
- 1 Corinthians 3:7 (NIV)

Life in Christ is full of surprises because of it's many people growing and bearing fruit from the varied seeds planted in theri lives.

Devotion

As I groove to the tunes of Liz Phair, I contemplate stupid shit. Like why I seem to never be satisfied, and why I seem to push away anything good, and when I don't have it.. I break my back striving for it.

I am unhappy with my life. My work situation, my family situation, my health. I have very little control over these things, due to circumstances beyond my control. I have a good relationship, and wonderful friends. Friends I never get to see, and a relationship with someone I care dearly for, but seem to be hurting for no reason.

He wants to know why I cry. So do I. He doesn't understand that if I knew why I was so upset, I would do something about it. The source is unknown.

I am dieting again. I suck.

A good day, today, I think.

I revealed myself as a piano teacher in yesterday’s Day Log; I was pleased with the happy responses of sensei and shmOOnkie pOOnks. Although I like to think that I am not just a piano teacher.

I bought my pot roast--I’ll have to get the recipe straight in my mind before I attempt a culinary masterpiece. I am usually not a bad cook.

Made two planned nodes today:

And several unplanned nodes, sort of targets of opportunity:

Had something of an indirect dialogue with Saige through the two technology nodes. Saige seems to believe technology can remedy the problems caused by technology. I don’t; I think remedial technology will simply cause new problems--called unforeseen consequences--the two most obvious: more knowledge will become property of corporations (the patents and copyrights), and the parts of the world so described (including food, and even life) will also become property of these self-same corporations.

For all I use technology, I am clearly a luddite, or more accurately, a neo-luddite.

More scheduling headaches. I wish that someone else would do that.

Now is the week that my students are showing their year’s achievement: all are doing the year end Recital, many--13!--are taking exams given by the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto starting this week. All will do the Recital well, but I don’t think all the exam candidates will do well--unfortunately.

Some students, after a year of good work, are beginning to defect; no longer do they practice as they should, as they have been. And, of course, both their parents and I encourage them. At least the youngest ones. As they approach 12, it is counter-productive, I believe, to push too hard. Especially if they have taken exams before, they should have begin to understand their own part in it. This is always the hard part--but I have done my part. I have so many students, now, that I have to take a more detached approach--or I will go off the deep end.

Got a new book of songs--The Groovy Years, 53 Songs of the Hippie Era. I got it especially for the song "And When I Die", by Laura Nyro, who I didn’t remeber doing it. I remember David Clayton-Thomas and Blood, Sweat, and Tears doing it--but not as big as "Spinning Wheel", also in this book.

No noding of The Golden Sayings of Epictetus today, or The Man with the Blue Guitar by Wallace Stevens. Tomorrow.

Yes, its the anniversary of D-Day. I asked one of my older students about it. She didn't know--do you know--that the beaches the Canadians landed at were Gold, Sword and Juno. Everyone knows which were the American beaches, though I've forgotten them for the moment.
