A superstar in strong-style puroresu. Akiyama began his career in the All-Japan promotion but left for the Noah promotion with the rest of the native Japanese superstars of All-Japan in mid-2000. Formerly a member of the tag team duo known as The Burning, Akiyama quit the team shortly after his partner won the championship he himself had been pursuing.
