An English composer, born 1944. Early success, with works like The Whale, led to hobnobs with The Beatles and an Apple Records deal. Since his late-70s adoption of the Russian Orthodox faith, his works have become more conservative (akin to Arvo Pärt and Henryk Gorecki), permanently ditching his whiz-kid ultra-modernist trappings. The Protecting Veil was a hit (as classical music goes), and his choral work "Hymn to Athene" was performed at Princess Diana's funeral.
