He will also star as Gimli in the upcoming movie version of Lord of the Rings.

Welsh-born, Rhys-Davies is an avid collector of vintage cars. In addition to the big- and small-screen roles mentioned above, he has performed onstage in most of Shakespeare's works and Hedda Gabler among other roles. His makeup for the role of Gimli took five hours to apply, and he was allergic to the prosthetics and could only work in costume every third day. Before the allergy was realized, the skin under his eyes was burned off by the pieces. Rhys-Davies divides his time between Los Angeles and the Isle of Man.
