Jif was the product name given to Cif cleaning liquid in certain English-speaking countries because of fears that the name 'Cif' would carry connotations of syphilis (the homophonic 'syph' was British slang for syphilis). In the UK at least, the name was recently changed to Cif, presumably because syphilis is no longer a commonly discussed or feared disease.
