Born Alfred Amey in California in 1968, Jaye Davidson moved permanently to England when he was two. He left school at 16, and was working as a fashion designer when he was discovered by a casting associate in 1992.

Jaye Davidson is most well known for playing a woman, Dil, in The Crying Game. Rumor has it that when he was offered the role, he was drunk and thought it was a joke. He took it for money, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. About this, he said, "It's not because I'm good, it's because it was an interesting role. It was the role that was nominated, not me. I really think that most of this is a fluke."

Because of his notorious androgyny, Davidson was cast as Ra in the 1994 film Stargate. He didn't want to turn down the offer outright, so demanded $1 million, which he thought would be enough to turn them away, but it didn't work.

Jaye Davidson has returned to the fashion industry and fallen back into obscurity since the 90's.
