A label, founded (1959) by Chris Blackwell, that originally specialized in imports of West Indian music. They branched out into rock, and later found a semi-obscure, newly-politicized reggae singer named Bob Marley; sold out to PolyGram, 1989. Home, at one time or another, directly, or by association, of U2, Traffic, Sly and Robbie, Roxy Music, King Crimson, Brian Eno, Robert Palmer, P.J. Harvey, The Cranberries, Julian Cope, and the early Zang Tuum Tumb.
