Interstate MAX is the name of the light rail extension in North Portland, Oregon opening in 2004. The 5.8 mile, 10-station extension is expected to cost $350 million. It joins the 1986 Eastside MAX alignment between the Steel Bridge and the Rose Quarter TC. The extension then travels north along Interstate Avenue (hence Interstate MAX) to Kenton, then along the new Vanport Bridge to the former Vanport townsite, then terminating at the Expo Center.

The MAX Yellow Line is planned to run over the new extension and over Eastside MAX from the Rose Quarter to downtown Portland.

Interstate MAX is not the same thing as the Yellow Line. Interstate MAX is the physical extension of the light rail system. The Yellow Line is the name of the route that will travel on it (and on other tracks). In the future, different lines could run on these same tracks.
