My shadow falls across your leg
and I shiver
horrified and thrilled

The shadows of my fingers cross your shoulder
and my hand burns and crisps

My shadow touches your face
brushes your lips
and I shudder
as if touched by the divine

Could I dare skin-to-skin contact?
Could I bear to touch your hand, to kiss your lips?
Surely the slightest touch would kill me
burn me to a cinder
blow my heart from my chest
send my feeble human brain rocketing into orbit

Perhaps some ecstasies are too great
Perhaps a lowly worm is not worthy to touch his goddess
Yes, I must keep my distance
I must keep my distance...
