On Why Being Immortal Might Not be So Wonderful

Think about it. You're free of the constraints of life, forever liberated to walk this earth forever...why in the name of the Goddess would you want to do that?
Most of us are pretty fed-up with this world as it is, and to be forced to live forever would be punishment. I'm not saying that being immortal wouldn't be amusing, for a short time, but after a while, I would want to rest. Add to that the possibility that your soul-mate or love is not immortal, and will eventually die, to leave you alone for eternity.

I just don't think that immortality is such a wonderful thing.

Being immortal doesnt mean you're invulnerable too. You still may be susceptible to pain, illness, injury, and dismemberment. Would you like to spend the rest of eternity crippled? Missing limbs? How about ravaged with disease? Would you age? (If so, would you wither away to dust? (sentient dust?))

Theres more to immortality than just living forever. If anything, it's more of a curse than a blessing...

If you have time, you may want to take a look at Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. A young girl is faced with the gift of immortality, and the perils that may accompany it.
