"If the King's English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!"

A quote attributed to "Ma" Ferguson, the first female governor of Texas, in 1925. She was arguing against legislation requiring high school students to learn a foreign language before graduating.

I was in an "Introduction to the Old Testament" lecture, and the lecturer told this story... (paraphrased)

"As you know, the Old King James Version of the Bible is *not* recommended for serious study, as it was based on later, flawed manuscripts, and the translations leave a little to be desired.

"I was explaining this to a class one day, as part of the same lecture, when a man near the back stood up and shouted "That's not right! That's heresy! How can you say that... King James English is the language God spoke!"
