An idea that has been perpetuated by the television show The X-files and particularly Fox Mulder. As is pointed out he has it on a poster. This is most likely associated with the idea that a belief is implausible but still something that you want to believe in. Perhaps religion fits into this category. Belief is something that has to be questioned for it to be stable.

I considered this sentence quite cool, because it was a sincere affirmation of someone that is putting a lot of faith in something that he is pursuing. But what is cool for a TV show isn't necessarily cool for your life.

I'd rather say I want to know,
believing without proof is religious stuff,
and I want to be rational
