In US politics, something you will hear Represenatives in the House and Senators in the Senate say. In the current two party system that each house operates under, each side is allocated a certain amount of time in which to debate the current topic. When a Congressperson finishes a round of speaking, if they wish to be able to speak again on the topic, they say "I reserve the balance of my time." If someone stops speaking to let the other side have their say without reserving time or yielding the remainder, it is assumed they reserve the balance of their time.
