This song, number twelve on the album, is actually the starting point for Scarlet's Walk. Tori Amos made the album about a woman's journey through America in order to understand the country after what happened on September 11, 2001. I can't see New York takes us back to the beginning.

This is also one of the most beautiful songs on the album. Opening with an anxious, querying piano-like solo, the entire piece has a slow, dreaming quality. It contains only a few phrases which are repeated, changed a little, and repeated again. The song belongs to a woman who doesn't understand, a woman who is dying in one of the planes sent crashing against the Twin Towers.

Scarlet somehow feels her cry of confusion. Before she leaves, she picks up the thread the dead woman dropped, swearing to remember her.
