Preschool game produced by
Milton Bradley, now a part of game mega-
conglomerate Hasbro, in which the players encourage small, plastic, pastel-colored
hippopotamus proxies to devour
marbles for the greater
honor of
player and
species. The loud, repetitive
noises produced by the plastic hippos as they feed is hated by four out of five
parents who hate loud, repetitive noises.
Oddly enough, this game exists in an arcade version, produced by Cromptons Leisure Machines Ltd., with pressurized air serving the marbles for mechanical hippos to devour.
The lyrics to the recent commercial (Goodbye, cruel world):
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
It's time to feed your face,
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
They're hungry, hungry hippos!
They're in an eating race!
Hurrah.
