However, there is no physical location called Sesame Street, at least none from which the children's show takes its name. One of the writers suggested "Sesame" from "Open Sesame!" (the command with which Ali Baba opened the door to the robbers' den in the Arabian Nights), to evoke a sense of wonder and magic. Since the setting was a city block, they called it "Sesame Street", and the rest is history.
