Character in the famous play Inherit the Wind by Robert E. Lee and James Lawrence. His character is based off of Clarence Darrow, the famous lawyer, during the heated Scopes Monkey Trial. The book itself is based off of the so called "trial of the century."
Drummond plays the lawyer for the defense, and believes in the teaching of
evolution in schools. As a person, Drummond is open-minded,
intelligent, and some-what
cock-sure. It is he that manages to turn the opinion of an entire town of right wing Christian
fundamentalists into believers by proving that neither Darwinism, nor Creationism, was on trial in that
courtroom. The accused was actually a man's right to think. By doing so, Drummond pulled of one the greatest legal
upsets of all time.
