2 cups, sifted all purpose flour
1 tablespoon, sugar
1/2 cup, shortening
4 teaspoons, baking powder
1 beaten egg
1/2 teaspoon, salt
2/3 cup, milk

Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and milk in another bowl. Add to flour mixture all at once. Stir dough only until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead gently with heel of hand (about 20 strokes). Roll to 3/4" thickness and cut straight down with 2" biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased pan (it's better of the dough chills for 1-3 hours). Bake in 450 degree oven for 10 - 14 minutes.
