Hamm is one of the four characters in Endgame by Samuel Beckett. Blind and crippled, he is the tyrannical master to his morose servant Clov. He cannot leave the house or see out of the windows, so asks Clov to report on what he can see outside, using a telescope from atop a ladder.
Hamm's parents (his 'accursed progenitors' as he calls them) are Nagg and Nell, who live in dustbins on the other side of the stage.
Nature has forgotten us.
