HMS Cockchafer

Four ships of Great Britain's Royal Navy have borne the name "HMS Cockchafer," presumably named after the Cockchafer beetle:

• The HMS Cockchafer was a 5-gun schooner, previously the United States schooner Spencer, which was captured from the Americans during the War of 1812 and renamed. Sold in 1815.
• The HMS Cockchafer was an Albacore-class wooden screw gunboat launched in 1855 and sold in 1872.
• The HMS Cockchafer was a Banterer-class composite screw gunboat launched in 1881 and sold in 1905.
• The HMS Cockchafer was an Insect-class river-going gunboat launched in 1915, hulked in 1947, and sold for scrap in 1949.
