H. E. Roscoe was a 19th century British doctor. In 1860 he conducted investigations into the curious stories of Austrian peasants who were supposed to regulary eat large amounts of arsenic. After chemically testing the substance they ate, he proved it was arsenic oxide, not the harmless zinc oxide that had been claimed by some.
