Originally the name given to the Roland MC-303, but now generically applied to tabletop units which combine drum machine, sequencer, synthesizer and/or sampler ability. Examples include: Quasimidi Rave-o-lution 309, Korg EM-1, Roland MC-303, MC-505 and MC-307, Yamaha RS-7000.

For kslawson: the TB-303 and TR-808 are not MIDI devices, they use CV sync.
