Green Man Cake

The Green Man is a symbol of male divinity, and it is to honor his death that this cake is made. It is perfect for Halloween and Samhain parties, especially when decorated with candy corns and marzipan leaves after frosting.

Ingredients:

• 3 oz unsweetened chocolate
  
• 1 stick butter
  
• 2 cups sugar
  
• 3 eggs
  
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
  
• 1 teaspoon green food coloring
  
• 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
  
• 1 cup sour cream
  
• 1 cup boiling water
  
• Frosting
  
• Decorative candies

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Melt chocolate in small saucepan over low heat. Allow to cool. Mix butter, sugar, and eggs in bowl. Beat until fluffy. Add vanilla and chocolate. Add coloring and beat. Sift flour and baking soda into another bowl. Add to batter alternately with sour cream. Add boiling water to batter and mix. Grease and flour pans. Pour batter in and bake for 35 minutes. Cool for 15-20 minutes, then frost and decorate.
