Contested border between the
Greek Cypriot part of
Cyprus and the
Turkish part of
Cyprus. The border runs along the edge of the island and through the captial
Nicosia. This is now the only
Divided Capital City in the world, after the
unification of
Berlin. The UN has a presence here and keep a
no man's land between the two parks of the island. Included in the no man's land is the city of
Famagusta. This was a busy resort that was entirely evacuated during the 1974 invasion by Turkey. It is now left as a 1960's time capsule of a resort. Abandoned as a forbidden zone.
You are no allowed to cross the border. Meaning that the Nortern part of the island is only visitable by boat.
It is also a bad place to break down in a car.
