An aphasia caused by damage to both Broca's area and Wernicke's area.
This patient suffers the expressive disturbance of Broca's aphasia and the loss of comprehension of Wernicke's aphasia and can neither speak nor understand language. Writing and reading are also affected.
This is usually caused by a severe dominant hemisphere infarct.
