Ghost is a
computer designed by
Merlin, the son of
Amber's vanished
hero Corwin. It physically exists in a
shadow where many
physical laws are slightly
different or
nonexistent, allowing it to
function on levels an
Earth computer cannot.
Ghost also has part of the
Pattern of Amber incorporated into its
design, allowing it to riffle through shadow like a deck of cards without actually moving. It is also capable of projecting a "
terminal", usually manifested as a
glowing golden hoop, through which it can
project images,
transport objects or
people, and a variety of other uses.
It speaks with Merlin's
voice, which unnerves some, and calls him "
Dad", which unnerves even more. There have been only two attempts to
hack or take over Ghost, both of which ended unpleasantly for those making the
attempt.
