General Protection Fault or GPF is the state of a computer caused by an error. This error generally causes Windows programs to crash. Two or more programs using the same memory block is the most common cause. This is similar to segementaion fault on a Unix system. [Some other causes are running programs with not enough free resources, and bad Windows files. This is often followed by the blue screen of death. Which displays the error message and a stack dump.

In plumbing, gpf is an acronym for "gallons per flush," a measurement of water used in flushing a toilet or urinal. Compare with Lpf (liters per flush).
