A group of islands located about 32 km north of the north-eastern tip of Tasmania, Australia, the Furneaux Islands are part of that state. They were discovered by and named after Tobias Furneaux, a British naval officer. There are about fifty islands in the group but only three are inhabited. They are Flinders, Cape Barren and Clarke Islands.
The islands are inhabited by Cape Barren geese and are nesting grounds for mutton-birds. The rocky coasts are a source of crayfish.
