Title of a book by Ouspensky. More broadly The Fourth Way is what Gurdjieff described as "The Way of the Clever Man". This is a spiritual path, a means to realisation which combines elements of the other main "ways":

  • The way of the Fakir - spiritual attainment through physical discipline.
  • The way of the Monk - through emotional practice.
  • The Way of the Yogi - through knowledge and concentration.

The fourth way is practised by someone who observes themselves, practices deliberate consciousness (Self Remembering) and balances approaches from each of the other ways in order to attain a development which is rounded and deals with all the centres harmoniously. For more information see Gurdjieff.
