The Fossa, Cryptoprocta ferox.
A cat like creature ound mainly in Madagascgar in forests.
Weight is between 7-12 kg. 60-75cm in length.
The Fossa is the dominant predator in Madagascar. They feed mainly on lemurs, birds, reptiles and insects. The Fossa is in danger of being on the endangered animal list.

Also used as a term to identify geographic features of other planets to denote long and narrow depressions. A few examples from Mars:

A pit, groove, cavity, or depression, of greater or less depth; as, the temporal fossa on the side of the skull; the nasal fossae containing the nostrils in most birds.
