A 40 oz. bottle of malt liquor. Common varieties include Old English 800, called eight ball or OE most of the time, St. Ides, and Private Stock.

A forty in Canada is not always a bottle of malt liquor it is a 40oz bottle of anything, usually spirits of some sort. A forty is 1.14 Litres and slightly larger than a quart.
