A town/city in southwest Florida, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Home of the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins spring training stadium and camps. A popular destination for spring break. Also the residence during the winter months for Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Their old houses and labs are now museums.

Things to do when you are bored in Ft. Myers:

1. Go to the Ft. Myers beach, there is a great Dairy Queen right next to the pier and volleyball courts
2. Visit Centennial Park, near downtown, sit on the seawall and watch the Caloosahatchee river.
3. Go to Sanibel Island and visit Ding Darling, an animal sanctuary
4. Go visit Captiva Island, it's gorgeous
5. Catch a football game at Ft. Myers High (go Greenies!)
6. Drive up and down McGregor Blvd (better yet, ride a bike), you will see downtown, many old neighborhoods, a few bridges linking Ft. Myers to Cape Coral, a few shops and lots (and lots) of sabal palm trees
7. Visit the Edison Mall, (hey, there is a little mall rat in each of us), and find the Dippin Dots ice cream vendor: I recommend a combo of chocolate and mint Dippin Dots
8. Find the Banyan tree that Thomas Edison brought from abroad (China, I think). You can see it visiting the Edison Winter Home (on McGregor Blvd). The tree is one of the largest in the United States and is over 100 years old.
9. If you come in February, you can catch the Festival of Lights, a civic celebration throughout the city that ends with a big parade
