Out of print, strange book for those who like their fiction bizarre and thoughtful (think Kafka, but a tid bit goofier). The narrator is a 30 year old man who states in paragraph one that he has no idea what he is doing with his life. His mother bursts in, and informs him that he's going back to school; more specifically, high school. He witnesses the absurd. He observes the inane, the malignant and the insane and his serendipitous placement in it all. Not much different for him from where he's always been. He runs away with a new chum, and the story continues from there. Although lacking supernatural elements a la E. T. A. Hoffmann, the sheer scope of strange more than makes up for it. My library in midtown manhattan had it...
