Condition alluded to in William Gibson's novel "Virtual Light". It occurs when one's expectation of a situation (e.g. a hostage taking) has been more informed by TV shows and movies than by experience. This can lead to the attempted resolution of the situation being unrealistically optimistic. In the novel, the hostage negotiator brought along the kidnapper's priest (a Father Mulcahy figure) and mother to try to talk him out. He then "got his ass drilled out real good".
