The original Santa Claus. Derived from British and Continental folk tradition and Mumming Plays. Originally the green clad bearded spirit of the Yule celebration. Various seen as a chief shaman and/or the Norse god Odin.
Once had two manifestations: A figure in bright colours (usually green, red or blue), who rewarded good children with presents; and a figure in black who kidnapped bad ones!
