FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone): a gonadotropin secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland that stimulates sperm formation in the testis, and the formation of the graafian follicle and the secretion of estrogen from the ovary. It is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the formation of the ovarian follicle on the ovary and the production of estrogen. When the follicle ripens, luteinizing hormone takes over, and the progestinic phase of the menstrual cycle appears;
