Also called E15, Eyjafjallajökull is an ice cap in the south of Iceland that covers the caldera of a volcano. The volcano had a major eruption on April 14, 2010. It emitted large quantities of ash that substantially disrupted European air traffic for fears it might cause engine damage.
The name is Icelandic for "island-mountain glacier".
