Rundown coastal towns that have a faded sad beauty to them. In Victorian times they boomed as working class people were able to travel to them on the train to briefly escape the industrial centres. Piers were built as moorings for coastal steam boats. The towns competed on who had the longest pier. Entertainment facilities including theatres were built on these iron work structures. Alas many of them are in disrepair or washed away now. In the 50's post war era the resorts blossomed again, with kiss me quick hats and holiday camps. In the 60's cheap package deals to the warmer Mediterranean was the death knell for the resorts.

Except Brighton.

This has kept and maintained the the bright Victorian brashness and over the top trappings from its heyday.
