Ελατος

  1. The eldest son of Arcas, the eponym of Arcadia (Table 9). When Arcas divided up his lands Elatus was given the area around Mount Cyllene; he later added Phocis to this when he assisted the natives in their war against the Phlegyans; he then founded the town of Elatea.

  2. Like many of the Arcadian heroes Elatus had a Thessalian counterpart; the two are barely distinguishable. This Elatus, from Larissa, was sometimes linked with CAENEUS (see POLYPHEMUS I).
